The Crow (2024) Concept Art Dump Vol. 1

Back in 2022 I was very fortunate to have been asked to be part of the concept art department on The Crow. Seeing as the film was recently released I thought I’d share some of the work I made during my time on the project.

Because Eric’s outfit would be essentially monochromatic I felt it important to include a variety of different textures that would help it “pop” onscreen; a mixture of polished PVC and matte leather. (Continued below…)

I think ultimately this design was probably a little too derivative of the original film, but it does include some aspects I found interesting, most notably the makeup. I thought it would be cool to have Eric’s entire head covered in greasepaint…👇

… dripping down his neck and chest, almost as if he had been baptised in it having been reborn as The Crow. I tempered this ( it was probably a little much) by including the original makeup/facial scar from the comic.

This piece was originally intended as a keyshot with Eric crouched on a rooftop with the city below. However I ran out of time so it ended up being more of a mood piece. I was aiming for more of a contemporary look with the outfit in this drawing… 👇

Makeup options for Bill. Some more out-there than others. I really liked the buzz cut look for the character, I felt it distinguished him from the comic/original film without looking too much like an attempt to come across as edgy… (Continued below)

I did try and push the idea but it wasn’t to be. Rupert had a very particular look in mind and it was my job to convey that as well as possible 😊
